Position is for a Structural Steel Quality Control Inspector, intermediate to senior level. You will be responsible for verifying layout, fit-up, dimensions, and weld quality of fabricated components in accordance with approved shop drawings and specifications, prior to and after welding. This role is hands-on and shop-based and also requires the ability and willingness to assist with fabrication, welding, rework, and other duties as required.
The successful candidate will have strong structural-steel fabrication experience and the ability to communicate clearly with welders and fabricators to ensure welding details, fit-up requirements, and quality expectations are understood and met. This role also includes assisting and supporting newer or junior fabricators in resolving fit-up, layout, or drawing-related issues.

• Review approved shop drawings, specifications, and welding details prior to fabrication
• Verify layout, dimensions, hole locations, camber, squareness, and fit-up against drawings before welding
• Inspect assemblies, beams, columns, HSS, plates, and miscellaneous steel components during fit-up and after welding
• Verify weld size, length, placement, and overall quality in accordance with drawings and applicable standards
• Communicate welding details, requirements, and corrections clearly to welders and fabricators
• Identify non-conformances or discrepancies and works with production staff to resolve issues efficiently
• Assist with fabrication, fitting, welding, rework, and general shop tasks as required
• Assist new or junior fabricators in understanding drawings, layout requirements, and fabrication methods
• Use measuring tools such as straightedges, combination squares, tapes, levels, and other layout tools
• Analyze engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations
• Maintain a high standard of workmanship and supports overall shop quality objectives
• Structural steel fabrication: 2-5 years (Required)
• Welding: 2-5 years (preferred)
• Quality control inspection experience in a structural steel fabrication shop (asset)
• Valid driver's license (required)
• Welding or inspection certification (asset, not required)
• High school diploma
• Strong blueprint and shop drawing reading skills
• Solid background in structural steel fabrication
• Strong understanding of fit-up, layout practices, and welding requirements
• Ability to work under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and tight deadlines
